On The Wings Of Horses is a non-profit organization located in Harrodsburg, KY, operated at DeLima Stables. We believe that horseback riding has a positive effect on children's lives, but recognize that many families aren't able to afford this sport.

OTWOH focuses on children living below the poverty level in Mercer and surrounding counties. These children are given the opportunity to participate in lessons, shows, and camps, all of which teach responsibility and respect for others.

Many of the children we've worked with have a disability or come from an unstable home situation. Being in a supportive, encouraging environment like the one at OTWOH gives these children a chance to excel and mature into responsbile, happy young adults.

Typically, students are sponsored in the fall after being recommended by the Mercer County Board of Education and going through the selection process. However, some children from other schools have been recommended by family members.

The Mercer County Board of Education identifies children of low-income families through the free and reduced lunch program and provides them with information about a camp at DeLima Stables. At this camp, children learn the basics of riding and equine care, do a craft, and meet our volunteers. After five evening sessions, children with an interest in becoming part of the program can be sponsored for a year of riding experience, if the funds are available.

There is no cost to selected children, so donations and fundraisers are the only sources of funds for this organization. Even a small donation can help make a difference in a child's life.
